Careers Hub Summit

The Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Careers Hub are hosting our third annual ‘Careers Summit’ bringing people from education, the business community, training providers and young people together to share good practise, encourage collaboration, outline future plans and celebrate success.

For the first time, we are beginning to see some alignment between the aspirations of young people and the opportunities available to them, and we are excited to keep building upon this momentum.

Each year we have a headline speaker along to open the event and we are excited to announce that our very own Kate Kennally will provide you with an overview of the recent change in Government, the devolution agreement and the launch of the Good Growth Plan for Cornwall.

You will hear, first hand, an outline to the vision, key messaging and opportunities set out within the plan whilst highlighting the importance and value of education and industry working together.

We are also expecting Oli de Botton, CEO of the Careers and Enterprise Company who will provide delegates with the national insights and plans for Careers Education in our schools and colleges. In addition to his work as CEO with the CEC, he is on a quest to reinvent work experience and champion oracy and it appears to be making a difference and can be seen written into recent manifestos with the Labour Government.

Connecting education and business: working together for a prosperous and productive Cornwall

The day will be interactive and engaging with plenty of time for networking, review and a shared evaluation.

Our key themes for the day include:
• Opportunity Awareness – Increasing awareness of opportunities in Cornwall, Devon and beyond
• Improving understanding – of all pathways including entrepreneurial ones
• Skills for the future – developing a skillset and interests that support meaningful career progression
• Addressing disadvantage – especially for young people from under resourced back grounds
• Increasing aspirations and opportunities – for young people with SEND
• Leadership – Engaging in impactful conversations, activities and provision that is underpinned by clear aims and measured for impact
